Myiases are infestations of human or animal tissues by larvae of flies of the order Diptera. Their impact on animal health is far from negligible. Indeed, the larvae feed on living and/or dead tissues and bodily substances leading to animal mortality, a reduction in milk and meat production as well as an increase in treatment costs. On January 25, 2024, we received a case of traumatic myiasis in sheep at the ISFAR/UADB veterinary clinic. The maggots were isolated and identified using morphological approaches. The identification made it possible to hypothesize, on the basis of the morphological elements observed such as, among others, the shape of the body, the posterior spiracles and the arrangement of the cuticular spines, that it was either larvae of Cochliomyia hominivorax or of Chrysomya bezziana. In parallel to these investigations, in the same period, cases of traumatic myiasis were reported by private veterinarians in the localities of Thiès and Fatick, describing the same clinical aspects. RESUMELes myiases sont des infestations des tissus humains ou animaux par des larves de mouches de l’ordre des Diptères. Leur impact pour la santé animale est loin d’être négligeable. En effet, les larves se nourrissent de tissus vivants et/ou morts et de substances corporelles entrainant la mortalité des animaux, la diminution de la production de lait et de viande ainsi que l’augmentation des coûts liés au traitement. Nous avons reçu, le 25 janvier 2024, à la clinique vétérinaire de l’ISFAR/UADB, un cas de myiase traumatique chez un ovin. Les asticots ont été isolés et identifiés à l’aide d’approches morphologiques. L’identification a permis d’émettre l’hypothèse, sur la base des éléments morphologiques observés comme, entre autres, la forme du corps, les spiracles postérieurs et la disposition des épines cuticulaires, qu’il s’agissait soit de larves de Cochliomyia hominivorax ou de Chrysomya bezziana.
